Betta Care Tips.....

Make sure the jar or bowl that you keep your Betta in is big enough so that he can swim around and not bump or tear his fins or scales. Also be sure there is plenty of surface area so that he can get enough oxygen.

Do not decorate your Betta bowl with rocks or marbles that may cause your Betta to get stuck between or under them. Be sure that they are a flat smooth surface that provides no risk to the health of your fish.

Keep tanks covered. Bettas can jump out of a bowl or a jar. Some plastic or a sheet of transparency paper works fine.

Changing the water around every three days will keep it clean and prevent infection in your fish.

These fishes have tiny stomachs. It is therefore recommended that one gives small quantities of food maybe twice a day.

Feeding them live food will keep them active and it is great fun to watch them gobbling them all up.

Brine shrimp

These very small crustaceans, commonly known as Artemia salina, are suitable for all types of fishes, even young fry.
Baby Brine Shrimp is a common food source for fish that are available in adult-form (Artemia salina) as eggs or freeze-dried.

During the past decade Artemia salina has become the most popular fodder for both salt-water and fresh-water fish bred in domestic aquariums or industrial ponds. 


Brine shrimp is a source of protein (50%), carotene (color enhancer), fats (20%) and acts as a natural laxative in fish digestive systems. 

Artemia can be used as aquarium food during all three phases of its life cycle.

• Artemia eggs without a shell are excellent fodder containing a high concentration of protein for fingerling and small fish.
• Nauplias – is initial fodder for aquarium fish youth.
• An adult Artemia is excellent fodder for a majority of mature fish species

Betta fish

Betta fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish are the most chosen breed of pet fish as they are beautiful in their own ways. Most of the Betta fish have beautifully coloured long fins, and scales. Male fish are more brightly coloured with hues ranging from red to blue, and are more aggressive than their female counterparts. It is also known in few places to let the Betta fish fight for bets. They are mostly found in slow moving waters, and need warmer temperatures of water. So it is advisable to add a suitable heater to maintain a temperature of at least 70 degrees in the fish tanks housing these Betta fish. Apart from this, Bettas require a dose of small insects, or insect larvae along with routine diet of flake foods, or frozen fried fish foods. The Betta fish need a little more space in order for them to comfortably move around with their long fins. They also need good amount of oxygen as these Betta fish are labyrinth, that is, they breath oxygen from air.

It is a known fact that Betta fish have a pretty aggressive temperament. It wouldn’t be advised to have two male Betta fish together, or to add a new one along with an existing Betta fish. This could turn nasty if the stronger Betta fish start attacking, or biting the weaker ones. Care must be taken to isolate the offensive fish for the safety of the rest. It is also better to keep the fish tank containing Betta fish covered when possible.
